NCCC Week 14: N3BB goes 6 for 6

By Jamie Dupree NS3T

If he had more Thursday nights free, Jim George N3BB might well be leading the NCCC Thursday night Sprint overall, as he is now six-for-six in victories when he's on the air. In week 14, George turned in a claimed score of 2,280 points stopping Mike Wetzel W9RE who chalked up 2,170 points.

As for the different categories, W9RE still leads East of the Mississippi River. N4OGW finished second last week to W9RE and is in second overall. N4AF was third in Week 14, as Howie tries to catch N9CK in third place overall.

"As far as competing against N4OGW and W9RE," said Steve Franzen N9CK, "I don't think I can beat them in the long run, but I'm sure having fun trying to keep up."

West of the Mississippi section, N3BB's win was his second straight as he inches ever closer to K7SS, who is in second overall in that category.

The overall West leader is still Bob Harder W0BH, who has built a decent lead thanks to his perfect attendance record. He only managed to squeeze out 860 points in Week 14 because of summer thunderstorms and QRN. and his QTH.

"I like how the NCCC format forces you to strategize on the fly," says Harder. "We have only 30 minutes. Depending on band conditions, operating environment and actual contacts being made, we use those 30 minutes differently each week" said Harder.

As for the NCCC California/Nevada division, it was another week at the top for N6RO, as he continues to lead that category. But this time it was a narrow win over K7NV, 1,372 to 1,269.

N6RO still has a comfortable lead overall, with K6VVA in second place.

(You can see the latest scores on the NCCC web site.)

The contest is based on the NA Sprint rules, well known for its QSY rule, which promotes a certain sense of frenetic contesting behavior.
