In what contesters will remember as a lackluster event in terms of propagation, the 2007 June VHF QSO Party winners include a familiar duo, as Jeff Klein K1TEO won the high power title and Bob Striegl K2DRH triumphed again in low power.
K1TEO's June VHF victory was his seventh straight win in that contest, as he won with 541,206 points, his lowest June VHF score since 2004.
Klein's score was so good, that only three other entries finished with more points, those being the top multi-operator teams at K8GP, W2SZ and W3CCX.
In the low power battle, Striegl K2DRH notched his fifth straight June VHF win, finishing with 242,505 points. Second was W1SJ, operating from WB1GQR with 156,738.
The last time Striegl failed to win the June contest was in 2002, only because he wasn't on the air.
As for the multi-ops, the Grid Pirates at K8GP totaled 2.3 million points for their victory, keyed by over 900 contacts and 180 grids on 6 meters, as they successfully defended their 2006 title.
W2SZ in Western Massachusetts was second, with W3CCX in Eastern Pennsylvania far back in third.
The race was much closer in the Limited Multioperator class, where the team at W3SO in WPA was the winner by just a few thousand points over W4IY in Virginia.
That was a turnaround from the claimed scores, where W4IY was in first place by four thousand points.
The W4IY group though lost 3.2% of its score in log checks, while W3SO only lost 1.9%, giving W3SO a narrow victory.
The big scores by K8GP and W3SO were the key to this year's club competition win by the Potomac Valley Radio Club, which had 35 logs for a total of 3.6 million points.
The PVRC has won the Club Competition every year since it was introduced in the June VHF in 2003.
In other categories, KA1LMR was the single op portable winner and David Glenn N6TEB was the winner of the Rover competition with 322,577 points.
Glenn had one of the best log error rates of the top finishers in this year's contest, losing only 0.6% of his claimed score.
