"Pekka Kolehmainen (OH1RY) and I totally modernized" EF8M says Valery Komarov RD3AF. "We set up new antennas, new transceivers, modernized everything inside the shack."
In an email exchange with readio-sport.net, Komarov wasn't shy about predicting a good contest weekend for his team.
"We will absolutely win, though there are a lot of competitors."
"I will be operating for the 5th time as 9M6AAC/9M6A," said Sawyer. "I have operated numerous times there in DXpedition mode.
"9M6AAC moved to a new location and this is the first time from there, said Sawyer, whose run of three straight US CQWW SSB low power titles was ended last month by K1BX.
"Station will be a tribander at 45 ft, a 40 - 10 vertical, and wires on 80 and 160. I will be SO2R SOAB LP.
"I will be back at N1UR for ARRL DX CW 2008 but will not be in the USA for the SSB test. I "may" show up from BY or BV for that."
"We spent quite a few days erecting new antennas during the summer," said Ari Korhonen OH5DX.
"We will run 10m, 15m and 160m SB in CQ WW CW this year. The operators are OH1JT, OH1RX and myself," said Korhonen.
Also expected to be on from the Alands is Martti Laine OH2BH.
"I have decided to stay home for this year and just jump over to our contest QTH," said Laine. "It is always fun to hand out multipliers and sense the happiness of people at the other end."
The group first flies to Mali, where they have stored their equipment in the capital city of Bamako. From there, it is a 900 km bus ride to the coast of Guinea, on the Atlantic Ocean.
3XY5D will operate from the Hotel Camayenne in Conakry. Each station for 160-10 meters, along with a multiplier position will have dedicated antennas and will be running a KW of power.
The VooDudes will be on the air before and after the contest, and will even try some 2 meter EME after CQWW. You can read more about their adventures at the VooDudes home page.
