As the scores trickle in from the 2009 ARRL DX SSB contest, Andy Faber AE6Y continues to lead the Single Operator ranks, as his P49Y score from Aruba of 5.8 million points is still leading the way overall.
It could be part of a double win for Aruba in the ARRL SSB, as signs seem to point at a big score as well from John Bayne KK9A, who once again operated P40A to a big score in the low power category.

Faber wasn't proclaiming victory, still worried about other ops that might show up with a big score to stop him from winning what would be his first ARRL SSB title from Aruba.
"Well, you never know how things will turn out," Faber told radio-sport.net. "Remember the Peter Sellers movie "Being There"? Half of success is showing up!"
If P49Y and P40A win a double single operator victory from Aruba this year, it won't be the only double in the 2009 ARRL DX contests.
Far north of Aruba in Canada, the VY2ZM superstation may end up winning significant awards in both ends of ARRL DX contest.
Jeff Briggs K1ZM was there for SSB, and checked in with 4.71 million points to give himself the lead among US and Canadian stations in Single Op High Power.
"It was a strange weekend," Briggs said of the propagation he encountered, "as there was more life in 15 meters on Sunday for me than on Saturday."
"It looks at the moment as if I am #3 world on SSB mode," Briggs said, as he narrowly trails YN2NB (N1SNB) for second.
A few weeks earlier, the VY2ZM call had the top Single Operator world claimed score in the ARRL DX contest, as Scott Redd K0DQ heads all there with just over 5 million points.
Two other prominent doubles also seem to have occurred this year over in the Multi-op ranks.
For the first time in 10 years, the W3LPL Multi team is on the way to winning both ends of the ARRL DX Multi-Multi competition in the US.
Team W3LPL claimed 7.3 million points in the ARRL SSB test, besting Team K3LR at 6.89 million.
"This time the propagation gods shined a little more brightly on the mid-Atlantic states, and we enjoyed better propagation to Europe," wrote Frank Donovan W3LPL in his 3830.
"Here at the bottom of the sunspot cycle we were fortunate to win both the CW and SSB Multi-Multi competitions, the first time we've done that since 1999," Donovan added.
To the north of W3LPL, Team WE3C in Pennsylvania could also land an ARRL DX double. WE3C hit 6.12 million in ARRL SSB, giving it a strong edge over N3RS and K1RX in the Multi-Two competition.
In ARRL CW, WE3C was at 8.15 million points in M/2, again with a strong claimed score lead over N3RS.

This photo was taken by Scott Redd K0DQ during his visit there for ARRL CW.
As of now, Redd still has the highest Single op score overall in ARRL CW, while Briggs now has the top W/VE score for ARRL SSB, giving him the chance to see two top finishes from his station in three weeks.
